CFA Wyndham
Story
Three firefighters from Wyndham are taking the fight against Motor Neurone Disease all the way to the top of Sydney Tower Eye this October. Werribee Fire Brigade Firefighter Matt Mannix and Truganina Firefighters Shane Bullen and James Jones will be making the journey to Sydney to climb the 98 floors or 1504 steps in full turnout gear at the Fire Fighters climb for Motor Neurone Disease.
The three who are stair climb veterans, have completed a number of challenges over the years but this will be their biggest yet. Inspired by the work of AFL legend Neale Daniher who is the co-founder of MND charity Big Freeze, they hope to raise a combined total of $3,000 that will go to the Macquarie University MND research facility, supported by the event.
Truganina Firefighter James Jones said the challenge is nothing compared to what those who live with MND face every day.
“This challenge doesn’t compare to people what people living with MND and their families live through every day. Neale’s work has been a real inspiration, and joining our comrades on the stairs at the Sydney Tower Eye will be an honour. As a volunteer, our role is to serve our communities and this is just another way we can support those within our community who are affected by the disease."
“We’ll be training at different locations around Wyndham over the next few months to get us prepared for the epic climb, if you see us around make sure you give us a wave or show your support with a donation to the Firefighters Climb for Motor Neurone Disease.”
Macquarie University (Health)
Your donation will go towards MND Research at Macquarie University. Macquarie University houses Australia’s largest MND research facility, as well as the MND Clinic which treats 10% of MND patients in Australia. All researchers work together in the one facility, on the one topic, with one aim: To stop MND.
